Burlap fabric trays +

I just realised that it’s been a week since I last posted! It’s been harder for me to find time during the week to sew/blog as I work more these days>< Also because I'm a slow crafter:) Too many ideas, too little time!^0^ Burlap fabric trays - Apple

I’ve made these fabric trays out of burlap (hessian bags) from Reverse Garbage and fabrics that I got from Sham Shui Po in Hong Kong.

Apple Fabric Close-up

You can see that the inner fabric kind of puffed up – which I don’t see in other crafters’ fabric trays – Any ideas what I’ve done wrong?!

Burlap fabric trays - Flower

With the flower fabric, I tried using an iron-on interfacing to see if it helps to reduce the puffiness, but it turned out similar>< Seriously need some tips!! Hand-carved Rainbow Stamp

I also carved a new stamp^^ Haven’t done that for a while!

Wet-felted Coin Purse

I’ve been wanting to show you this felted coin purse which I made for a friend back in December for some time – the photo has been sitting in my camera :p Not too bad for a first attempt!

How was your weekend? xx

  • No idea about the puffiness but I do love your projects, super cute felted coin purse. I’d like to learn about your stamp making.

  • I think you’re on the right track with the fusible interfacing, the fabric wants some shape to it. Try a woven interfacing that has a lot of drape to it. That should help to weigh the fabric down so it’ll want to drape into the corners and lie flat. Hope that helps.

Not sure about the puffiness, but I do love the burlap fabric combo:)

  • I’ve seen these before. I love the texture the burlap adds. I have some heavy linen laying around,… this is just the right project for it I think. Thanks for sharing.

As for the puffiness, I would try some double sided fusible web (the kind you can use for applique). Then I would maybe add a topstitch if the edges still puffed out a bit. Hope this helps.

      Hi Krista,

Thank you for the tip! I think double sided fusible might actually do the job! I don’t have any at home though.. time for some more shopping!! ^0^
